Done yet? um… no

AbsoluteB, CSS

As is generally the case with most web projects, announcing completion just means that you’re done with that particular phase of the project and that you can proceed on to the next; post project maintenance, bug fixing, etc. AbsoluteB was no different, though I have to say it could have been worse and I really shouldn’t even complain. The launch of AbsoluteB went really very smoothly with some minor cross browser/platform CSS issues which I partially blame on the fact that this was the very first project I completed on my just over two month old Macbook Pro. And of course I’ve done cross browser testing on past projects, but for a second I forgot about the usual suspect for compatibility issues; MS Internet Explorer (yikes). Thus in the midst of my excitement while showing the site to a friend on his PC, I noticed tiny, little irregularities and things that were simply broken in the layout and code! Then upon testing on Firefox on his PC, I saw the same issues there too. So I was faced with not only cross browser issues, but also browsers on different platforms (Vista vs OSX). Frustrated at having to postpone my next project, I broke out my nearly 8 year old Dell Inspiron laptop and got to testing. Needless to say, the issues were resolved very quickly, all thanks to hardware nearly a decade old! I even brought in a few design improvements thanks to suggestions by my friend… in less than 24 hours after launch!

Truth be told, this is something I’m completely used to. The site is a constant work in progress, not just content wise, but also in the design and layout. And the constant strive to make things more effective and efficient is constantly pushing against my need to make designs more unique and that take a side step from standards and norms. As a personal attribute, I always attempt to go that extra distance while trying to not take things too far. The previous version of AbsoluteB was an awesome tool when it came to displaying the possibilities to U.S. based companies and organizations because it was loud, it shouted “look at me!”, but it hasn’t been the best when it comes to Holland because the threshold lies on a different part of the scale. Hence why the site has grown up, matured and merely states the possibilities while referencing to its younger days.
