It’s been about a month since I last posted and that’s mostly to do with the fact that I started working at Bonobos so any and all my time has been spent on their projects and on learning and integrating myself into their work flow as much as possible. Not just that, but also looking for ways to streamline the various processes. So far I’ve been more than happy to be part of the organization and being able to work in such a young and dynamic environment. I’ve slowly gotten to know my new colleagues better and they’ve been great in allowing me to feel a part of the team. Since moving into the new building, I’ve definitely been able to work on some great and fun projects; from designing sites to logos and functional widgets and elements.
One of my many responsibilities is to find inefficiencies and areas for improvement in the project flow when it concerns design and development, and though there are a few areas which I feel processes could run a little smoother and integration could be tighter, I’m still very pleased with how things currently are and especially where things can go. It’s a really great feeling waking up in the morning and coming to work excited because you want to do nothing but a good job and to make a difference, this however is no substitute for the first cup of coffee.
I’ve also been able to learn a whole lot since I started. This past month, for example, has been the first time I’ve ever worked so intensively on my MBP since launching this version of AbsoluteB. In case you didn’t know, I use as my Mac as my main computer (money definitely well invested).
My workstation consists of an M-Stand where my MBP sits on, connected a 22” widescreen monitor. The external doesn’t quite reach as a high a resolution as my notebook, but that comes in handy whenever I want to see what something I’ve designed looks like on a more common resolution. In any case, having a second monitor helps my work flow, having Photoshop and Dreamweaver open on my main screen and a browser open on the secondary to preview the development process. I also utilize an Apple wireless keyboard and a cheap-ass wired Dell mouse, though I do plan on upgrading that one soon. I’m slowly in the process of Apple-fying my desk.
It didn’t take long to get back into the CSS/HTML/PHP flow of things either. It’s been really great having the opportunity to experiment with different techniques and methods, while at the same time learning the organization’s framework. The creative freedom I’ve had so far has been good, I’m still designing within a few limitations based on the goals and the targets of the project as a whole, but I know that these various different views are nothing but an asset; the more the better, that’s the only way to move forward in my opinion.
So that’s where things stand, I hope I’ll be able to find more time to update about various projects, I’ll have to see where my permission stands on that front, but I’m sure as projects start rolling live, I’ll be able to post about them.
Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you’re all as into the festive and holiday spirit as I am!
